Position Reports To: Off-site and Camp Programs Manager

Direct Reports: GOCO, Camp, and Outreach Educators and Interns

Salary/Hourly Rate:$19-22/hour

Position Summary:

The Out-of-School Programs Coordinator is responsible for organizing and leading out-of-school programs supported by Butterfly Pavilion including day-camps, afterschool programs, and the GOCO Westy Power Poder Project with the City of Westminster.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities:

After-school programs:

  • Support functions of after-school programming, including GOCO afterschool programs, GOCO afterschool programs, by acting as program supervisor.
  • Develop and/or redesign and implement curricula and programs in alignment with P&I learning framework which meets the needs of diverse audiences for all after-school programs.
  • Support increasing the reach of Butterfly Pavilion into the community through providing world class after-school programming including GOCO and identifying additional opportunities for after-school programs.
  • Coordinate, schedule, and staff after-school programs.
  • Acts as a liaison between after-school staff and Butterfly Pavilion.
  • Prepare monthly reports and follow grant guidelines on the activities at their siteas it pertains to GOCO.
  • Maintain schedules and program operations within the stated goals and objectives of specific programs.
  • Coordinate with City of Westminster staff for support and alignment with GOCO grant.
  • Coordinate field trips and material purchases in line with program budget and with communication with Off-site & Camp Programs Manager.

Out of school Camps:

  • Lead all functions of daily camp programming - administrative, implementation and logistics.
  • Develop and/or redesign and implement innovative camp curriculum and activities in line with P&I Learning Framework which meets the needs of diverse audiences.
  • Support Camp Team in classroom and behavior management as needed.
  • Coordinate with Curatorial team to best include live animals in support of camp curriculum and activities in line with all USDA and AZA requirements and accounting for animal welfare.
  • Support in communicating with stakeholders including camp parents, interested community members, and other Butterfly Pavilion teams.
  • Support Off-site & Camp Programs Manager in creation and implementation of camp SOP's
  • Coordinate with all camp staff and interns to adhere to Childcare Licensing.
  • Support escalated discussions with camp parents as needed with Off-site & Camp Programs Manager.
  • Support in creation and implementation of camp training, especially those required by Childcare Licensure and Butterfly Pavilion (i.e. AZA).

Additional Duties:

  • Attend required branch and facility meetings and training.
  • Following all State and Butterfly Pavilion policies & procedures to meet the State license requirements as well as organization's requirements.
  • Collaborating with Programs and Interpretation Branch to develop and implement new curricula or programs in line with P&I learning framework.
  • Providing administrative support to Programs and Interpretation Branch.
  • Cross-training to provide program support in other areas such as exhibits.
  • Collaborate with other departments to plan, develop, and implement new services and troubleshoot issues.
  • Be professionally active, attending seminars, conferences and continuing educational opportunities that are applicable to the position.
  • Collaborate with other Butterfly Pavilion Departments to ensure organizational cohesion.
  • As appropriate, utilize and troubleshoot Butterfly Pavilion Systems to manage programmatic and administrative operations: Paylocity, Volgistics, ApplicantPro, Smartsheet, MS Outlook, MS Excel, MS Publisher, MS inDesign, iMovie, SurveyMonkey, all exhibit technology components.

  • Degree in education, environmental sciences, natural resources or related field
  • Comfortable interacting with guests from diverse backgrounds.
  • Fluency with computer software, scheduling and database programs including Microsoft Outlook and Microsoft Office.
  • Excellent customer service, organization and communication skills
  • Ability to effectively manage a classroom of up to 50 children
  • Enthusiastic, fun, and patient
  • Solution-oriented, ability to troubleshoot
  • Adaptable to different teaching environments
  • Computer proficiency-word processing, spreadsheets and databases


  • 1-2 years' experience managing staff
  • At least one year coordinating logistics and schedules
  • 2-3 years of experience working with groups of school-aged children in a camp, school, or childcare setting
  • Prior experience working with individuals of different ages and abilities
  • Prior experience in a customer service-based role
  • Experience with curriculum development and program planning
  • Familiarity with Colorado Academic Standards

Additional Requirements:

  • Valid Driver's License
  • Proof of current automobile insurance with the following coverage: $100,000 bodily injury for each person, $300,000 for each accident, and $50,000 property damage liability.
  • CPR and First Aid certified within a year of hire or before the primary teaching season, whichever occurs first

Employee should be able to lift, carry and items up to 50 lbs.
