Butterfly Pavilion will break ground on the new facility in 2022.

Position Summary:  The Director of Communications designs and implements marketing strategies to cultivate our relationships with media, the community and potential donors, engage our target audience, and boost our brand awareness. They will create and oversee the communications portion of our Capital Campaign, positioning Butterfly Pavilion as the global leader in invertebrate education, research and conservation. Internally, they will evangelize our message to staff, helping to create a strong culture of philanthropy.

Essential Functions & Responsibilities:

  • Set objectives for the PR function and monitor performance
  • Maximize brand consistency and presence on various channels (e.g. web, traditional and social media)
  • Build internal PR resources to support Capital Campaign
  • Develop PR collateral to support Campaign outreach efforts
  • Cultivate and maintain relationships with media, community, government and influential professionals
  • Work closely with Campaign Leadership (CEO, Board Chair, VP of Fund Development) on strategic direction
  • Arrange interviews and press releases to promote Butterfly Pavilion and its initiatives/products/services
  • Organize PR events and a thought leadership program to increase awareness of Butterfly Pavilion
  • Manage Butterfly Pavilion's Speaker's Bureau
  • Track and influence media coverage
  • Report on PR campaigns' results
  • Manage sensitive issues to maintain Butterfly Pavilion's good reputation
  • Manage PR freelancer focused on driving awareness for the attendance-based zoo activities

  • Proven work experience as a Public Relations (PR) Director, PR Manager or similar role
  • Solid experience coordinating successful PR for capital campaigns
  • Expertise in different social networks, including Facebook and Instagram
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills with confidence to serve as the company's spokesperson
  • Creative abilities
  • Stakeholder management skills
  • Ability to foster long-term relationships with key professionals
  • Degree in Marketing, Communications, Journalism or relevant field
