FLSA: Part Time Seasonal

Salary/Hourly Rate: $12.50

Position Summary:  Butterfly Pavilion is seeking an individual with an interest in environmental education, nature play, curriculum development and a love of teaching youth about the natural world through informal nature camp programming.  Position is up to 28 hours a week during Summer Break opportunities, beginning with training in late May, with camps ending mid-August.  Planning time is incorporated in the weeks leading up to programs. 

Essential Functions & Responsibilities:

  • Teach interactive nature-based summer camps to youth, ages 5 - 12
  • Assist in development of camp curriculum and activities as needed
  • Use live animals to demonstrate science-based concepts to camp participants
  • Following all policies & procedures to meet the State license requirements
  • Effectively managing classroom of 10-30 children
  • Mentoring volunteers
  • Attending required branch and facility meetings

Qualifications/Experience:

  • Pursuing or holding a degree in education, environmental sciences, or related field
  • Basic knowledge and interest in the environment and wildlife
  • Comfortable interacting with young children and parents
  • Enthusiastic, fun, and patient
  • Certified in First Aid & CPR (training may be provided on site)
  • Previous experience working with groups of school-aged children in a camp, school or child care setting
  • Prior experience working with individuals of different ages and abilities

Additional Requirements:  

  • Valid Driver's License
  • Subject to background check, CBI/FBI reports, and all Child Care License Requirements

Must be able to work the following dates:

  • Mandatory Training Dates: Tuesday May 28-Friday May 31
  • Week 1: June 3-7: Zookeeper in Training
  • Week 2: June 10-14: Wild Colorado Backyards
  • Week 3: June 17-21:  Beekeeper in Training 
  • Week 4: June 24-28:  Aquatic Adventurers
  • Monday July 1 Butterfly Bonanza One Day Family Camp
  • Tuesday July 2 Crazy Crustaceans One Day Family Camp
  • Week 5: July 8-12 (same theme as Week 1):  Zookeeper in Training 
  • Week 6: July 15-19 (same theme as Week 2):  WILD Colorado Backyards
  • Week 7: July 22-26 (same theme as Week 3) Beekeeper in Training
  • Week 8: July 29-August 2 (same theme as Week 4) Aquatic Adventurers
  • Week 9: August 5-9 - FINAL WEEK!  Kid vs. Wild Survival Camp!

While performing the responsibilities of this position, the employee is required to talk and hear. The employee is often required to sit and stand, use their hands and fingers, to handle/feel/grasp. The employee is occasionally required to reach with arms and hands, climb or balance, and to stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl. Vision abilities required by this job include close vision. Employee should be able to lift, carry and items up to 50 lbs.
