FLSA: Full Time /Exempt.  

Rate: $55,000-$57000/year DOE  

Position Summary:  The Butterfly Pavilion Retail Director will be responsible for the successful operations of the Butterfly Pavilion Gift Shop and Beestro Concessions.  This position will oversee all of the financials of retail and concessions, as well as the merchandising of all products.     

Essential Functions & Responsibilities:  

  • Direct and lead retail & concessions operations' annual operating plans to successfully meet financial objectives, including developing strategies for expense management and revenue generation
  • Create and implement a departmental organizational structure that best supports retail & concessions operations' operational objectives
  • Control costs through management of inventory, operational expenses, payroll and the use of proper accounting and cash management procedures
  • Achieve financial objectives by preparing an annual budget, scheduling expenditures, analyzing variances, and initiating corrective actions
  • Formulate pricing policies by reviewing merchandising activities, determining additional needed sales promotion, authorizing clearance sales, and studying trends
  • Oversight of Inventory Control Specialist, who is responsible for ensuring timely ordering, receiving and stocking of all products
  • Responsible for creating strategic vision for conversion and sales by square footage, including signage and layout
  • Maintain professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops, reviewing professional publications, establishing networks, and participating in professional opportunities
  • Maintain operations by initiating, coordinating, and enforcing program, operational, and personnel policies and procedures
  • Develop demographic and psychographic analysis of guests in order to drive store brand.
  • Work closely with VP of Marketing & Communications to determine marketing strategies
  • Finalize and implement a strategy to streamline and expand the online store, including creation of revenue goals and inventory specific to on-line sales
  • Work closely with Verticomm and RetailPro (the point-of-sale and inventory system) to ensure accurate tracking of all products
  • Drive sales culture in gift shop and concessions, as part of guest experience
  • Oversight of training of sales associates by Retail Manager and setting measurable performance goals
  • With the President/CEO, set 3-5 year strategies for both retail and concessions' businesses
  • Purchase inventory by researching emerging products, anticipating buyer interest, and negotiating volume price breaks
  • Represent Butterfly Pavilion in a professional manner to clients and potential clients in order to demonstrate our cultural commitment to Visitor Experience
  • Develop a working knowledge of all aspects of Butterfly Pavilion business, including education, research and conservation efforts
  • Participate in all required staff meetings
  • Develop SMART Plans & Development Goals yearly

Qualifications/Experience:

  • Five years or more of successful Retail and Concessions Management  
  • Experience in management of personnel oversight
  • Bachelor's degree in related field
  • Computer skills, including Microsoft Office, as well as ability to learn our POS/database system, RetailPro
  • Have working knowledge of all aspects of Butterfly Pavilion business, including education, research and conservation efforts
  • Participate in all required staff meeting
  • Develop SMART Plans & Development Goals yearly
  • Proven critical and conceptual thinking
  • Proactive mindset, and a solid understanding of implementing and directing results-oriented operations
  • Proven skills in store merchandising and customer analysis
  • Proficient technology skills, including Microsoft Office, as well as ability to learn our POS/database system, RetailPro.

Employee should be able to lift, carry and items up to 50 lbs.
